You've built something real. A business that works. A team. Revenue. Momentum.
But lately, it's starting to feel... off.
You're carrying too much. You're the one everyone depends on. And no matter how much the business grows, it still feels like it needs you at the center of everything.
You might recognize yourself here:
✔️ You've built a successful business but it's costing you more than you expected.
✔️ You're always "on", and it's starting to wear on your energy, your health, and your relationships.
✔️ You're still the bottleneck in key areas of the business.
✔️ You crave space to think, lead, and actually enjoy what you've built.
✔️ You want to scale or eventually exit but you're not confident the business is ready without you.
✔️ You've achieved the outcome... but not the feeling you thought would come with it.
And maybe the hardest part?
From Outside, it looks like you have it all together.
But inside, you know something has to change
Burnout isn’t just about working too much. It’s a signal that the way you’re operating—and the way your business is structured—is out of alignment.
The truth is:
Your business will only scale to the level that you do.
And if you’re leading from pressure, reactivity, and constant involvement… That becomes the ceiling of the company.
But when you shift how you lead—when you operate from clarity, presence, and flow— Everything changes.
Here's what starts to happen when you realign from the inside-out:
You step out of the day-to-day and into your true role as the visionary
Your energy stabilizes—you’re no longer running on fumes
Your team takes ownership and the business stops revolving around you
You gain clarity on the highest-value levers that actually grow the company
You build a business that is scalable, sellable, and sustainable
You reconnect with your family, your health, and the parts of life that matter most
I've spent my 25-year career driven to succeed at higher and higher levels. By the age of 35 I was on the fast track to law firm partnership and served as a senior corporate lawyer advising the C-suite at a Fortune 500. Soon thereafter I launched a legal consulting and tech firm to help Fortune 500 companies better analyze and manage sensitive electronic data. The business took off and just 18 months after launch, I turned down a $2.5M acquisition offer from a top tier consulting firm. Two years later I turned down a $5M offer from another firm, intent on growing the business much larger. I was running full tilt, all the time.
Until I flamed out and hit rock bottom, on the floor of a luxurious hotel room at the age of 42. Immediately everything in the business and my personal life was in jeopardy.

A Deloitte study finds that 82% of CEOs have experienced exhaustion indicative of burnout, and a survey by Morning Consult indicates that over 70% of small business owners experience burnout symptoms at least once a month.
In 2024, burnout was the most common workforce challenge reported in Inc.'s annual CEO survey, with 49 percent of respondents saying they are seeing it in their workers.
The Deloitte study also found that almost 70% of surveyed C-suite executives responded that they are “seriously considering quitting for a job that better supports their well-being”
Which raises this question: what can you start doing now to overcome these odds both within yourself and your business?
After several years scaling and negotiating the sale of my legal tech and managed services business, I struggled with the same question.
And yet it took hitting rock bottom for me to fully realize that I’d fallen into some bad habits that were threatening my business and ruining my personal life.
Through the pain of that experience, I discovered several shifts that helped me turn everything around. Instead of grinding tirelessly like before, exhausted and disengaged, I started to feel in flow and firing on all cylinders every single day - and the business started booming. Less than 2 years later I successfully sold the business for 12X EBITDA, and achieved my dream exit.
My name is Don McLaughlin, and I help CEOs and business owners conquer burnout and prioritize their personal lives, so they can build a more valuable business with more enjoyment and fulfillment.
Most founders try to fix their business from the outside in. More tactics. More hires. More pressure.
But that’s what keeps them stuck. The founders who actually break through? They make a different move. They scale themselves first. Because when the leader changes… The business follows.
If you’re ready to build a company that grows without consuming you, and lead in a way that feels as good as it performs. This is your next step.
